Fiona’s heritage is a main inspiration. She designs bags with gorgeous soft leathers and textiles, combining the utility of equestrian hardware.
Designing for over 20 years Fiona was inspired by her Grandmum who was formerly a court dressmaker for the British Royal Family. John Kempton, her dad was a horse trainer and jockey winning the Grand National in 1967. Fiona's dad made his own saddlery. Being around horses, waxed leathers and buckles creatively inspired Fiona.
Frank, is our main artisan who makes all the bags with help from Fiona.
After spending ten years designing for major fashion companies Fiona decided to start designing on her own. In 2010 Kempton & Co. was born in Brooklyn.
Our zipper toggles are made by Kenyan artisans. All work is done entirely by hand with simple tools and machinery, with locally sourced (in Kenya) materials. These up-cycled materials are used to generate income for small artisan groups working mostly in Kibera, one of Nairobi’s largest slums.
The fun part, making designs come alive.
Fiona’s heritage is a main inspiration. She prides herself in always maintaining an artistic approach to function; it is a philosophy that the company strives to maintain with every bag.
A day in our factory. A bag is in the process of being made into a creative masterpiece.
